Protect Your Images on the Web With a Professional Looking Watermark
by Myron G. Bursell, Ph.F
Green Gables Photography, Inc.

The internet has opened up so many possibilities for customers to view and order portraits and weddings through websites like my favorite, SEEYOURPHOTOS.net.

Watermarking, (a more savvy word than copyright) is essential to protect your work from being copied. Using your STUDIO NAME and calling it a watermark is a less aggressive way to set up this protection.

The action with a "Droplet" that follows made for Photoshop, will allow you to personalize the watermark to your studio name rather than using the words: copyright or proof. I will not be using key-stroke short-cuts even though I use them extensively, we'll do it the long way!

  • Create the logo as a separate layer on a transparent background, and as the only layer. Save as a PSD file and put it in a folder where it can stay. Close the file.
  • In Photoshop's Preferences > Units & Rulers- set the unit of measure to Percent! Use Percent as the unit of measure when recording the action so that the watermark/logo is placed in the same relative position on all images, regardless of size or orientation. If you use inches or pixels, horizontal and vertical images will need separate Actions to vary the watermark. (You can change the unit of measure back to whatever you want after the action is recorded).
  • Open an image.
